    My Photography Tips

    May 14th, 2012

A while ago I posted an article about why I won’t give up my DSLR. I thought I would expand upon this now and tell you why I love taking photographs in general. First of all, photography is a great hobby to take up if you are looking for a creative activity to pass the time. It allows you to be as individual as you want and to express your own styles and ideas, while creating something that others can appreciate and enjoy. I love to be spontaneous with my photography and have found that sometimes the old ‘point-and-shoot ‘ method yields the best results, even if you are not expecting it.

However, if you want to be sure that your image will come out great, there are a few things you can do. It is always a good idea to learn how to use your camera properly, which you can do in your free time before you make dinner or Play on Play on FoxyBingo.com . Once you are familiar with the settings, then you can choose the right one for each situation and you will be able to dictate the overall effect that you end up creating. The more you use your camera, the better your photography skills will become and you will notice the change in your images.

One thing that I love to do is to play about with the perspective I take my photographs from. Choose unusual angles instead of capturing the object head-on and this will create a totally different effect. Pay attention to the lighting as this will have a huge effect on the outcome of your photograph. The same object can look very different under various lighting conditions, so remember to experiment with this, as well as all the other variables that go into creating a photograph.

    Little Ms. 4-Eyes

    May 3rd, 2012

Around 2 weeks ago, Adi complained that her vision was a bit blurred. Honestly, I didn’t give it much thought. I thought it was just another of Adi’s spur of the moment complaints. She’s like our very own “the boy who cried wolf” because she complains a lot. She complains about the tinik on a boneless piece of fish. She complains that her fingernails are ouchy. And she complains that everything is spicy…including ice cream. So you can’t really blame me when I shrugged off her blurry eyes complaint.

However, she repeated her complaint last week and added that sometimes she saw things in double. I stood up and took notice. And I did what any mother would do, I had her checked.

Guess what, she’s far-sighted with a bit of near-sighted thrown in. Upon checking, she should be wearing 175-200 grade glasses. But the doctor told us that her condition can be corrected. She just needs to learn to focus her eyes properly and glasses, with a much lower grade, would assist her in doing this.

You’d think she’d feel bad that she needs to wear glasses….nnnnnoooooooo!!! When told that she needed them, she immediately looked for a frame and promptly pointed out a pair that cost a whooping 10,000 pesosesoses!!!! Of course, I said no..and added that those frames were for me..HAHAHAHA!! I got her a kid-specific pair that were kinda pricey but way lower than her original choice.

Now my next problem is Gaby who thinks its not fair that she doesn’t get to wear glasses..she thinks they’re cool.

Cord Blood…An Answer to the Controversy

    April 27th, 2012

When I gave birth to my 2 babies, my ob-gynecologist offered me the opportunity to harvest my kids’ cord blood from their umbilical cord. The harvested cord blood was to be stored abroad because back then, the hospital did not have the facilities for storage. I gave it a thought but eventually trashed the idea simply because it was too costly.

Fast forward to 9 years later, in hindsight, I regret not having stored my kids’ cord blood. After reading various information about the benefits, I really think I should have considered it. For one, our family is a repository for many congenital ailments. Everything from cancer, coronary disease, hypertension, thyroid disorders, diabetes, arthritis…and many more…we have it in the family. But I found out that there are many more reasons to have done this.

    Reasons to Consider Donation

Donation of sperm, eggs and a baby’s umbilical cord blood is not often discussed due to the potential controversies that sometimes surround the topics. While it is important to understand the controversies, it is also important to understand the reasons to consider donation to make an educated decision.

    Saving Lives:

While cord blood contains stem cells, it does not come from unborn children or the marrow of bones. Instead, it comes from the umbilical cord after a child is born. The cord blood reviews relating to whether it is best to donate or if it is better to simply throw it away as medical trash needs to understand the benefits of donation.

Donating cord blood can potentially save lives. The particular applications of cord blood are still undergoing research, but many medical applications that give hope to families have arisen. Cord blood can help in some cases of cancer and blood conditions. It is even suggested that it might heal brain damage, though the research is still inconclusive about how it impacts brain injuries.

    Preventing Genetic Health Conditions:

A couple that is at a high risk of passing on genetic conditions will often hesitate to have children of their own. The idea of passing on a genetic problem that is potentially life-threatening can greatly impact the decision to avoid pregnancy. By using a sperm or egg donation, the likelihood of passing down rare genetic conditions is greatly reduced.

    Allowing Pregnancy:

Barrenness is sometimes a case that results in feeling hopeless. A wide range of factors can contribute to the inability to get pregnant, such as one of the individuals in the couple having more than two chromosomes determining gender. For example, a man who has an XXXY genetic code would end up incapable of getting a woman pregnant. A woman might not produce eggs regularly enough to get pregnant or might have other similar problems.

By donating sperm or eggs, it is possible for couples who are barren to have an opportunity to gain something they’ve always wanted: a child. Barrenness is often overcome with sperm or egg donations based on the particular situation causing the inability to become pregnant.

Offering a donation of sperm, eggs or umbilical cord blood has many potential benefits. It can make dreams and wishes that seem impossible come true. By offering the sperm, eggs or cord blood, it is possible to help a family in need.

    Too Hot to Handle

    April 25th, 2012

Really, it’s too hot!!! Considering that I’ve prided myself with my ever efficient inborn cooling system, lately, my cooling system seems to be malfunctioning.

I can’t tell whether it’s my perimenopause kicking in or it’s really just too hot.

Whatever it is, even my shopping habit has suffered. I don’t want to leave the cool confines of my airconditioned room to make the trek to the mall because it’s too hot. And to think that now is the time to go out and buy cool-weather clothes because they’re on sale!!! Goodbye to that wonderful looking leather motorcycle jacket that was supposed to be for a trip (which I haven’t planned..hahaha) to some cool-weather locale. Goodbye to those ankle boots I had my eyes on when I went shoe shopping with my Mom.

Oh well, let’s just hope that the rains come soon….really really soon.

Why I Won’t Give Up My DSLR

    April 25th, 2012

Lately I’ve been taking my old Nikon DSLR for granted. It’s been resting in my closet for more than a year and I haven’t even bothered to take a single photo with it. Why?

Well, I’ve been fiddling with smaller and newer cameras that can take pretty good pictures, to be honest. However, they still don’t compare with those taken with my DSLR.

Even with the advent of these new mirrorless models, I can’t find it in my heart to give up my big cam. I love it too much. I’m currently charging the batteries and will take my DSLR out for a spin…again.
