As a parent, I worry about my kids’ future careers. Despite the fact that I told myself that I wouldn’t impose my dreams for them regarding what they will be when they grow up, I sometimes find myself insisting on certain paths. Yes, I do it consciously…so sue me!

You can’t blame me, I see the potential in my kids.

For instance, in Gaby’s case, she seems inclined towards the arts. She likes to sing. And she’s pretty good at it, if I may say so. Her uncle even told her to forget about being a lawyer or a doctor and that she should pursue her singing skills so she can grow up to a be a superstar someday.

Although I am secretly hoping that she finds Healthcare Specialists Jobs somewhat interesting. It would be nice to have a doctor in the family. But, well…..

She likes visual arts as well. Proof of this is that she was invited by the school to join a “by-invitation-only” art club that meets every 3rd Saturday of the month for some art activities.

At the same time, she is a budding technophile and a science nut. She loves her computer lab class. She joined the CyberKids club in school so she can hone her tech skills. She asked to have my old laptop so she can practice at home. Sometimes she tells me of the future inventions that she will create when she grows up. Methinks she could be some technological innovator someday.

Adi is my future politico. She is very outspoken and is not afraid to tell you what’s on her mind. Teachers included. Her prep teacher once told me that she was such a tattle tale in class. Just this year she was assigned as the Class Marshall so she could use her “talents” for a good purpose. Methinks that she has the makings of an honest civil servant. Or a good Chief of Police.

She also loves Math. And she likes doing her Math problems fast. She likes speed tests. She likes math games. She likes Sudoku. I may have a physicist on my hands.

At the same time, she also has good memory. She may not like reading much but when she does, she remembers details. When I drill her for spelling, I know she’s not listening to me. She just writes down all the words on her spelling list in the exact order she studied them. Methinks she might make a good lawyer. What with all the memory work required to practice the law.

So you really can’t blame me. I see their potential. I will encourage them in any endeavor that they may choose in the future. But in the meantime, I might as well make them realize the possibilities that their talents may lead them to.

Truly, we can not just watch but help (insist) to mold the future of this world. :) You have a brood of great potential. And I can be proud to say … Me too.
