Yesterday I entered the 43rd year of my life. Save for the typhoon that was about to enter the country’s area of responsibility, nothing monumental happened to make this birthday memorable. Besides, a typhoon on my birthday has been a regular occurence. I’m so used to NOT doing anything on my big day simply because the weather does not cooperate. Really. I’ve had birthdays with gale force winds smashing the city. I’ve had birthdays with “delubyo” type rains pouring down and submerging everything. Just my typical birthday scenario. A recent birthday was even spent in a half opened mall in semi-darkness because the kids insisted on eating out despite a raised typhoon warning gripping the city. Oh well.
This year was just like the rest. Rainy…cold….wet. I woke up to smiling kids and a “moooooshy” hubby who handed me a card and a gift. I got a beautiful vintage watch (ahem…he got me a Rolex…woot!!!) with a card that read…”just because things are old does not mean they’re not as beautiful…parang ikaw…after all these years you’re as bitchy as ever!”
I LOVED IT!!!!!
I would have been happy with flowers from the local internet flower delivery people but this…this was way better.
And the kids…well they saved me from making dessert by concocting a “special” Banana soup made with bananas (obviously), milk, and what I think is half a kilo of sugar. Yes, it was sickeningly sweet but, heck, my kids were proud of their work and I showed my appreciation by eating some of it.
Do I feel any different…yes. I feel older but definitely happier. I’m happy to be 43. I know I don’t look it (indulge me, ok), but I’m proud that I got here safe and sound.
