Because my youngest is in the thick of her Phonics, Reading, Language, and Spelling lessons, she is very eager to learn learn and learn some more.

Lately her lessons in phonics has been focusing on consonant blends. Specifically, H blends. CH, SH, and TH was done with ease. We ran into some trouble with PH because she refused to acknowledge that it sounded like F and insisted that it was Pah-Hah.

But what was worse was that she insisted that there was a GH blend. Naturally, I refuted that. But she insisted on finding out what GH sounded like. Once again I said that there was no GH. So she pointed out that there was a GH blend. As in EIGHT…there was the GH.

So as not to disappoint, I said, “GH sounds like YYYYY.” like in EYT.
